PA Dutch Rosette Square

materials:
small amount of yarn
any size hook

notes:
--This pattern makes a fairly small square. Using a size "I" hook and worsted yarn, I got a 3 inch square.
--The pattern is named for the Pennsylvania Dutch Rosette Cookies my gramma makes. (yum!) If you don't know what a rosette cookie is, it's like a kind of a miniature, thinner funnel cake. They're rosette shaped (surprise ;-)) and they're crispy, airy and very quick to disappear--probably why the recipe makes about 200.
--Because of the looks of a half double crochet, either side could be used as the front.

pattern:
ch 8, sl st in 1st ch to form ring
Rnd 1: ch 8, (dc in ring, ch 5) 7 times, join with sl st to 3rd beg ch
Rnd 2: sl st in first ch-5 loop, ch 1, (8 hdc in next* loop, 2 hdc in next loop) 4 times
