Tropical Fish Coaster


materials:
royal or navy blue worsted weight yarn
brightly colored variegated or ombre worsted weight
size "I" hook

pattern:

ch 4
Row 1: in 4th ch from hook, 2 dc, ch 1, 3 dc
Row 2: ch 3, dc in same st, 2 dc, 3 dc in chain-sp, 2 dc, 2 dc in 3rd beg ch, changing to variegated w/ last yo
Row 3: ch 1, working across straight side - sc across changing to blue w/ last yo
Row 4: ch 1, working in back loops only - sc across
Row 5: ch 1, (sk 1 st, 3 dc in next st, ch 3, sl st in next st) 2x, sk 1 st, 3 dc in next st
Row 6: ch 1, 3 dc in ch-3 sp, ch 3, sl st in same ch-3 sp, 3 dc in next ch-3 sp
finish off

materials:

Size 5 hook
Coats Button Craft Dual Duty Plus Thread (less than one spool) - roughly equal to size 20 or 30 crochet thread

pattern:

Ch 5, join w/ sl st to form ring
Rnd 1: sl st in ring, ch 1, 12 sc in ring, join w/ sl st to 1st sc
Rnd 2: ch 5, (dc, ch 2) in ea sc around, join w/ sl st to 3rd beg ch; 12 ch-sps
Rnd 3: sl st in ea ch-sp, ch 1, 3 sc in same ch-sp and in ea ch-sp around, join w/ sl st to 1st sc
Rnd 4: ch 5, (dc, ch 2) in ea sc around, join w/ sl st to 3rd beg ch; 36 ch-sps
Rnd 5-6: sl st in ch-sp, ch 5, (dc, ch 2) in ea ch-sp around, join w/ sl st to 3rd beg ch
Rnd 7: sl st in ch-sp, ch 1, 3 sc in same ch-sp and in ea ch-sp around, join w/ sl st to 1st sc; 108 sc

Rnd 3-4: sl st in 1st ch-sp, ch 4, (dc, ch 1) in ea ch-sp around, join w/ sl st to 3rd beg ch

Hex Coaster

One ball Sugar’n Cream cotton yarn

pattern:

Ch 8, join w/ sl st to form ring
Rnd 1:sl st in ring, ch 3, 2 dc in ring, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 1) 5 more times in ring, join w/ sl st in 3rd beg ch
Rnd 2:ch 3, (dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in same sp, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in ea ch-1 sp around, join w/ sl st to 3rd beg ch
Rnd 3: ch 1, sc in ea st around, placing 3 sc in ea ch-1 sp, join w/ sl st to first sc.
Finish off, and weave in ends.

Daisy Chain Coaster

notes:

flowers could also be connected in a straight line to make a border

1st Motif:

Colored Hearts Coaster

materials:

Size 10 crochet thread (1 main color, small amount of accent color for “hearts” – works well with a dark color and a bright or pastel one)

Size “1” steel hook

special instructions:
dtc – double treble (triple) crochet – yo 3x, insert hook where indicated, draw up a loop, (yo and draw through 2 loops) 4x

tr – treble (triple) crochet – yo 2x, insert hook where indicated, draw up a loop, (yo and draw through 2 loops) 3x

to work shell – 3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc where indicated

to join w/ dc – tie starting knot (slip knot) around hook, yo, insert hook where indicated and draw up a loop, complete as with regular dc

With main color,
Ch 8, join w/ sl st to form ring

Rnd 1: sl st in ring, ch 3, dc in ring, ch 1, (2 dc in ring, ch 1) 8x, join w/ sl st to 3rd beg ch; 9 ch-sps

using main color, working in front of ch-4 sps from Rnd 4, join w/ dc in any unused ch-sp from Rnd 3, * dc in next st, tr in next st, ch 4, bringing the ch behind the “peaks,” sk 1st st after peak, tr in next st, dc, dc in ch-sp, rep from * around, join with sl st to starting dc

NOTE: all ch-4 sps should be on wrong side of work, they should not be visible from front of finished piece

Rnd 6: ch 3, 2 dc in same st, * work shell in ch 2 of Rnd 4, sk tr and next dc on Rnd 5, 3 dc in next dc, rep from * around, work last shell as prev, join with sl st to 3rd beg ch

Finish off

Weave in ends

Block as necessary to keep shape.
The row done in contrasting color should look like a heart near the top of each point around coaster, 9 in all.

Variation – the hearts may be worked separately as well. Omit ch 4 in between hearts, and start each heart individual by joining with a double crochet. In a single color or an ombre (variegated color), this would leave unnecessary ends, but it is the best way if you want several different colors.
